French Translation
French is a Romance language spoken in France, Belgium and Switzerland. It is also spoken in Canada (mainly in Quebec), in the north of New England (northeast coast of the United States) and in many other countries and regions previously or currently governed by France. It is the official language of over 25 countries. The first writings in French are the Strasbourg Sermons, which date to the year 842.
The French language developed from a regional Parisian dialect, which has been the official standard language since the mid-16th century. Certain regional dialects of French have survived, particularly in the spoken language of a number of remote regions, although Walloon, for example, is still spoken in Belgium.
